Donahue, Superintendent of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and Wil Bullivant, President of the Millbrook Village Society, have jointly announced that two annual holiday events at Millbrook Village, the Victorian Christmas Celebration on Saturday, December 3 and the Christmas Carol Service on Sunday, December 4, have been cancelled. Due to the storm damage and flooding caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, Millbrook Village remains closed to the public. "We hoped to end the year on a festive note with these special, annual, holiday events. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene caused significant damage throughout the park, including the historic buildings and grounds at Millbrook Village. Many of the village’s buildings cannot be used until repairs are made and the site is again made safe and accessible for park visitors," said Superintendent Donahue. "The total cost of storm damage throughout the park is approximately $7 million. At Millbrook Village, the cost of the needed repairs is well over $300, 000," he added. Wil Bullivant, President of the Millbrook Society, echoes the superintendent’s concerns, "The Victorian Christmas Celebration and the Carol Service have been very special events at Millbrook Village for many years. They have been enjoyed by visitors and volunteers for over thirty years. Traditionally, the Christmas events have been the close of Millbrook's season and provided an opportunity for the Millbrook community to gather, enjoy the fellowship of our many friends and give thanks for a good year. We will all miss this year's gathering and miss seeing our friends at Millbrook this Christmas Season."
